Project: voyager chair

Client: ParkIt Movement

Capabilities: research // design // PROTOTYPE // manufacturing

CLIENT REQUEST: Current outdoor chairs were cheesy, boring and lacked real purpose. The client wanted to create a product that would be a symbol of exploration and bring people from all walks of life together to share their stories of adventure; a chair with a purpose.

THE CHALLENGE: Fulfill the client’s vision of modernizing an old and tired classic; bring personality and functionality alongside graphics to appeal to today’s zeitgeist taste. Also, make it cool and (since it’s supposed to accompany you to any kind of adventure) comfortable too.

THE APPROACH: We studied the fine details behind why these traditional chairs tend to look and behave the same way over and over again, and what limitations and opportunities really existed to make them different this time around. We dove into how to innovate this classic chair by digging into unconventional and contemporary functions and design styles to provide it with exotic personality. There were lots of crude mockups to get the ergonomics just right.

THE RESULTS: An incredibly comfortable, durable and stylish outdoor cooler and chair combo appropriate for harrowing journeys and campfire chillings. Built to stand out and last through any adventure. A true symbol of knowing that it’s all about the journey and not the destination.

What finalized my decision to work with Klugonyx was the passion, confidence, and drive they had for my product and my dream. Jason was the 1st supporter of my product on Kickstarter. we launched at 4am and he woke up specifically to be our very first customer.
